From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, and The Lying Game comes Ruth Ware's highly anticipated fourth novel. On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, this is an addictive thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.
This book... where to begin?!! First off, Ware’s writing never ceases to amaze me. It evokes a true longing to read and read because the stories are so real and so complicated. Secondly, the woman reading the book has a wonderful voice and it made the story even better! Every time I thought I had guessed the ending of this book (multiple times I was willing Harriet to know what I did), I was wrong! It’s almost as if Ware knew where your mind would be taking you and she then whipped the story around and threw you off the scent. The story within the wonderful writing of “The Death of Mrs. Westaway” is both heart-wrenching and uplifting. You can’t help but feel overwhelmed by how real and raw the characters’ emotions are. It’s almost as if you’re a part of the story - in the room with them even! I won’t share more about the story for fear of writing spoilers.
For any fans of Ware’s other books, prepare yourself. This is the best yet! For those who don’t know Ware, please do yourself a favor and read this book!! Then, go read all her other ones.
