The English Roses is a story of rivalry and friendship among schoolgirls in contemporary London. Four little girls, Nicole, Amy, Charlotte and Grace, are eleven years old and the very best of friends. They have sleepovers, picnics and ice-skating parties that exclude Binah, a beautiful girl whose seemingly perfect life makes them "green with envy." However, when a feisty, pumpernickel-loving fairy godmother takes them on a magical journey, they learn to their great surprise that Binah's life is not nearly as enviable as it had seemed. The English Roses is an inspiring story about the importance of compassion and the rewards of friendship. Mr. Peabody's Apples, a story about the power of words and the importance of teachers, takes place in 1949 in Happville, USA. Mr. Peabody, the beloved elementary school teacher and baseball coach, one day finds himself ostracized when rumors about him spread through the small town. Mr. Peabody silences the gossip with an unforgettable and poignant lesson about how we must choose our words carefully to avoid causing harm to others.
Finally a book with a LESSON!
I am not really a Madonna fan, I am only 17 and like a few of her songs but that is it. But, this book is a really excellent book for children ages 5 and up. It teaches a lesson. I read this while babysitting to a 6 year old the English Roses and Mr. Peabody's Apples. Its a good book about seeing the whole picture and understanding a point of view from somebody elses perspective (but obviously in a way a kid would understand). I think there were some other books by her which I will definetly buy because these books are worth reading to your kids. Play it in the car or buy the book either way they are great. And its really great if you want a break from the ABC books. And the kids I babysit for love the illustrations.
