The eagerly awaited new novel in the number-one New York Times best-selling Dresden Files series. When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has no body and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends - and his own soul - Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic.... Due to scheduling conflicts, there’s a new Dresden narrator in town. You may already know John Glover from Smallville, and we think he’s done a great job capturing Jim Butcher's world. We hope you enjoy his performance.
no James Marsters!!!! why?
I was going to buy this audiobook until I noticed that the narrator was switched from James Marsters, who was an absolutely perfect voice for Harry Dresden in the rest of the series and actually the reason I started listening to the Dresden series of audiobooks in the first place.
I previewed this new narrator, hoping for the best....... sorry, no sale. Doesn't compare. So I'll spend half the price and read the book myself... with James Marsters voice in my head.
James Marters IS Harry Dresden.
John Glover is a fine actor and an excellent narrator. The problem is, HE'S NOT HARRY DRESDEN. That honor goes to the man who brought Harry to life in the audio book format...James Marsters. There is quite literally no reason that a change in narrators should have happened here. Whatever scheduling conflicts came up should have been worked around. Penguin Audio and Jim Butcher are doing a terrible disservice to Dresden fans by bringing in a new narrator just so the audio book could come out day and date as the print version. Seriously...we would have waited...weeks/months/whatever to get Harry's true voice telling this story.
I agree with the other reviews... Wow! What a disappointment! I have been Waiting for the new Jim Butcher story -- In AUDIObook.... so that I could hear Harry Dresden's voice telling the story! And... sorry ... but not even CLOSE with the other narrator. It is obvious that the other guy is a good voice, but Jim Marsters knew exactly how to deliver those awesomely dry, witty lines perfectly. Jim Butcher is the Best author... and they had the perfect match in having the stories narrated by Marsters as Harry... How could they split up the perfect match!! I am devestated... what a bummer.
I suppose I am going to be doing the same thing... buy the book and read it with Jim Marsters voice in my head... This is a blow to those who use audio for extensive travel. These were the BEST audio books for long drives... but it is just galling to hear the story with OUT Harry's perfect delivery!
