Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love. Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.
Amazed from the Beginning
At first, I was relunctant to read this book. I didn't want it to ruin her for me, yet I was excited to see what Stephenie had cooked up for us now. As I read it I fell more in love with it. Her writing has really improved and her descriptions are still beyond what I could ever fathom. I am completely in love with this book. I am in love with it because it has definite themes strewn throught the book, it is more than just a story, it's a lesson. Even after you are finished you want to revisit parts, talk about it, think about it. It's one of those books that makes you think about how life could be changed through one small detail. Folks, she's done it again. P.S. I'm hoping for a movie deal and a sequel.
Definitely Not a Let-Down!
I picked up this book with the sole expectation that it was by my absolute favorite author. And after the first 200 pages (which are not the most interesting thing in the world) I was HOOKED. Once you break over the halfway point, this book has everything: action, adventure, romance, humor. It forces you to think in ways that Twilight never did, making it in some ways the most enjoyable book I've ever read. To this day, I am trying to decide whether or not it's a better book than Twilight...
LOVE at first SIGHT
This book is a magnificent achievement. Stephenie Meyer has really out done her self, of course you can never beat the Twilight Saga. But, if you really want to get the whole experience, don't buy the audiobook, buy the real thing. Nothing can top the feeling of success when you slowly close the back cover of a perfect book.
