When Laurence Fife was murdered, few mourned his passing. Plenty of people had reason to want him dead. But the police thought his wife Nikki , with motive, access and opportunity, was the #1 suspect. The jury thought so too. Eight years later and out on parole, Nikki hires Kinsey Millhone, a gutsy P.I., to find the real killer. The trail is cold, but Kinsey finds a lead that brings her face-to-face with the murderer! This is the first in the popular series featuring California investigator Kinsey Millhone. She's 32, twice divorced, no kids, an ex-cop who likes her work...and who works strictly alone!
A Good Story
You know how sometimes you're just in the mood to listen to a good story being told, but also intrigued by a good mystery? Sue Grafton achieves that inside her Kinsey Millhone mysteries. I read out of order, but there's still plenty to enjoy while listening to Grafton's "A" is for Alibi novel. In my opinion, the narrator does a good job in this audio version. I recommend this title at the $6 price. You get 7 1/2 hours of commute time put to good use - listening to a mystery!
A is for Alibi
I haven't even finished listening to this and I am not sure that I will because the narrator is so poor. Her vocal characterizations are either weak (so you have trouble figuring out who is speaking) or hackneyed, her inflections often are wrong (emphasis on wrong word), and her interpretation of the main character makes it very difficult for the listener to feel very sympathetic towards her.
