Lean In: Women, Work, And the Will to Lead (Unabridged)

Sheryl Sandberg - Facebook COO, ranked eighth on Fortune's list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business - has become one of America's most galvanizing leaders, and an icon for millions of women juggling work and family. In Lean In, she urges women to take risks and seek new challenges, to find work that they love, and to remain passionately engaged with it at the highest levels throughout their lives. Lean In - Sheryl Sandberg's provocative, inspiring book about women and power - grew out of an electrifying TED talk Sandberg gave in 2010, in which she expressed her concern that progress for women in achieving major leadership positions had stalled. The talk became a phenomenon and has since been viewed nearly 2,000,000 times. In Lean In, she fuses humorous personal anecdotes, singular lessons on confidence and leadership, and practical advice for women based on research, data, her own experiences, and the experiences of other women of all ages. Sandberg has an uncanny gift for cutting through layers of ambiguity that surround working women, and in Lean In she grapples, piercingly, with the great questions of modern life. Her message to women is overwhelmingly positive. She is a trailblazing model for the ideas she so passionately espouses, and she's on the pulse of a topic that has never been more relevant.

Must read for women who want to have it all

I had to listen to this slowly and carefully cause it has so much wisdom, I truly enjoyed it. I have had female mentors at top levels in Fortune 500 companies, yet this book has been an aye opener. All of my life I thought it was impossible for a woman to balance a career and a life but Sheryl does a great work at "lifting" the curtain out of this myth and the things we all need to do to make this a possibility for more women. To a woman, this book is like finding the female mentor you always wanted. Finally, I would also recommend this book to men, specially if married to a working woman or if in a top position. I look forward to see what Sheryl does & writes next :)

Lean IN

Great book, a must read for every manager, leader or sales person. This book brings great life lessons to the surface.

I wanted to NOT like this book, but...

I don't know what possessed me to buy this, but I wanted something for my long commute. The title only seemed off putting, which I thought would speak to how women in the workplace aren't assertive with their career aspiration. The first 3 chapters caused great skepticism for me. But mid-way through, I was in my care fist pumping the air and say "Yes! Yes! Yes!" As a 40 something black female, married, 2 kids, who works in the corporate world, I agree with 80% of what is stated in the book. 10% of what is stated I disagree completely, and 10% I disagree, but believe I could be enlightened. The part about mentors is right on the money. The part about single women and the importance of their need to have balance just the same as mothers, I think is really important to mention. I can go on and on. This book is great for men as well.
