James S.A. Corey delivers compelling SF that ranks with the best in the field. In Leviathan Wakes, ice miner Jim Holden is making a haul from the rings of Saturn when he and his crew encounter an abandoned ship, the Scopuli. Uncovering a terrifying secret, Jim bears the weight of impending catastrophe. At the same time, a detective has been hired by well-heeled parents to find a missing girl, and the investigator’s search leads him right to the Scopuli.
Great scifi novel
This novel really captures your attention, with a fantastic opening three chapters. The plot is woven very carefully. There are slow points, but this is not because the book is written poorly, it is because after the fire laden opening, learning more about the characters inner makeup feels slow. However, these "slow" parts really add to the story as they build to the end. On top of a well developed story that keeps you coming back chapter after chapter, the narration is great. I really enjoyed this book.
I'm a fan of the solar system, the galaxy, the universe and the wonders they hold. However, I am fairly grounded in my science interests. Blinking in and out through worm holes and aliens with can't-ever-pronounce names are turn offs. This being said, this book WAS AMAZING! The author blends the intense insight of human evolution and likely expanse throughout our solar system with the here and now, real human-nature conflicts. I was so impressed, I just purchased James S.A. Corey's next installment in the series, and pumped to get listening!
Leviathan Wakes is Excellent!
This is a stunningly well composed and organized story. Space Opera to the highest degree!
I listened to the audio book version and I was drawn into this story from the first minute. The price is high, and I wish these were more popular so the price would come down, but even at 30+ dollars, the entertainment is still well worth it and I cannot wait to get the next audio book in the series!
