Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right (Unabridged)

by Al Franken

Open iTunes to Buy

Al Franken, "one of our savviest satirists" (People), takes on the issues, the politicians, and the pundits in one of the most anticipated books of the year. Once again, the author of Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations trains his subversive wit directly on the contemporary political scene, leaving the powers-that-be in tatters and his audience in hysterics. Al Franken thrives on being in the opposition, and now that the Republican party controls both the Oval Office and Congress, the gloves are off and the satire is fast and furious. Franken's specialty is using his targets' own words to make comedic and political points. Finding logical inconsistencies, factual errors, and doublespeak wherever he looks, Franken takes on and destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, hoists the Bush White House on its own rhetorical petard, and punctures the mean-spirited sanctimony of such media darlings as Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, and host of post-Limbaugh talk-radio gasbags. Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always uproarious, Lies is sure to raise hackles and spark hilarity inside the Beltway and from sea to shining sea.

So that's how bush won...

I haven't listened to the audiobook but i read it instead. I must say, Franken hit the spot. Republicans have been affiliated with so many different things! Religion, bribes, oil companies, every imaginable thing! In the book, however, there is a comic strip about 'supply side Jesus'.

perfect title

I found at least 10 "mis-statements" in the first couple of chapters, most by omission. It is the other half of the sentence that he leaves out that makes this a book of, Lies, and the lying LIAR who wrote the book, if he didn't have someone ghost write it for him. This is the perfect title...for the tripe in this book. Big Al is a bad comedian and even worse political commentator who is blinded by hate, prejudice, and division. He is intolerant of even looking for the truth, he just wants HIS guys in charge.

This book is how I first learned about Al. It is very well researched and goes over a long length of topics ranging from FOX News to Ann Coulter and other political figures who may not tell the complete truth, both elected and not. The best part is Al reads this book on the audio. While some concepts are lost like the cartoon of Supply Side Jesus and some charts are just hard to understand verbally, the comedy is there and in some time accentuated by having Al read to you. Also I would like to ad that Al does not only point out errors but gives solutions at the end of his book, and he ahs followed through with his big solution. Read/listen to the book to learn what the solution is. Enjoy!
