Publisher Description

In a broken landscape carved by environmental collapse, Boston paramedic Cacia Ferry risks life and limb on the front lines of a fragile and dangerous city. What most don't know - including her sexy new partner, Eli Margolis - is that while Cacy works to save lives, she has another job ferrying the dead to the Afterlife. Once humans are "Marked" by Fate, the powerful Ferrys are called to escort the vulnerable souls to either eternal bliss or unending fire and pain.

Unaware of Cacy's other life, Eli finds himself as mesmerized by his fierce and beautiful partner as he is mistrustful of the influential Ferry clan led by the Charon - who happens to be Cacy's father. Cacy, in turn, can no longer deny her intense attraction to the mysterious ex-Ranger with a haunted past. But just as their relationship heats up, an apparent hit takes the Charon before his time. Shaken to the core, Cacy pursues the rogue element who has seized the reins of fate, only to discover that Eli has a devastating secret of his own. Not knowing whom to trust, what will Cacy have to sacrifice to protect Eli - and to make sure humanity's future is secure?

Marked

I almost stop listening to this book .. The story is fairly imaginative and interesting, but the writing is somewhat sophomoric and juvenile. Reads almost like YA. The narrator is also annoying. She sounds like an eighth grader, which lends to the overall feeling of reading a teenybopper novel..until you get to the sex scenes..than it feels like a teenybopper novel written by a teenybopper who's been exposed to excessive adult behavior. But the story is rather compelling so I'm going to read the next book. Not sure I'll be able to get through it ... If the story doesn't continued to be as compelling as the 1st book in the series .. I'm done..

Very enjoyable audiobook

As I was in between series, or waiting for other books from other authors to be released, I figured I would give this a try. This was based in a future post global warming Boston, and then richly rooted in common lore. Sarah Fine put a wonderful new spin in this lore. It had more graphic sex than what I was happy with, but it at least wasn’t a “pressure cooker” romance sci-fi novel which I have mistakingly bought way too many of by accident. Do be careful NOT to listen to this in mixed company. The “Ferryman” concept for guiding spirits plus the “Kerr” for “Marking” those that died, was really a great concept and make a fantastic conflict point. I didn’t see the end coming of the “bad guy”. I won’t say more than that. The narrator does a great job, no fake Boston accents either. Being a Bostonian I truly appreciated that! I am really looking forward to Sarah Fine’s next book in this series!
