Richard Mayhew is a young man with a good heart and an ordinary life, which is changed forever when he stops to help a girl he finds bleeding on a London sidewalk. His small act of kindness propels him into a world he never dreamed existed. There are people who fall through the cracks, and Richard has become one of them. And he must learn to survive in this city of shadows and darkness, monsters and saints, murderers and angels, if he is ever to return to the London that he knew. "A fantastic story that is both the stuff of dreams and nightmares" (San Diego Union-Tribune), Neil Gaiman's first solo novel has become a touchstone of urban fantasy and a perennial favorite of readers and listeners everywhere.
Best book I've heard in a long time!
The story is refreshingly original and superbly told. Neil Gaiman is a tremendous narrator as well as a gifted author. This book will not leave you disappointed.
Neverwhere (2007 author's preferred version)
I listen to a lot of audio books. The story in this one is terrific and something I wouldn't have imagined myself. But more, the author's skill in narrating it by changing voices and putting pauses in at *just the right places* where he intended them when he wrote Neverwhere-- well, I just have NEVER heard a better reading of a book.
Neverwhere WAS Really Somewhere!
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. It was not only my introduction to audiobooks, but also to Gaiman's wonderful storytelling. Since then, I've 'heard' several books by this author (at present, The Graveyard Book) and have yet to be disappointed. Gaiman's narration brings the characters to life. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys great fantasy and adventure!
