The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger (Unabridged)

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba! In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake. Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, The Gunslinger leaves listeners eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
I was really looking forward to this book but hated it. The story line hard to follow and overall a waste of time.
Story jumped all over the place. One second your in one storyline the next second you're in another with no discernible break.
Just the Beginning
This is the beginning of an epic tale that spans when's/where's and leads the faithful reader down through the pits of hell and back. I love this story and while some of the books in this series I enjoy more than others there has to be a beginning. In this you're introduced to Roland Deschain and his quest to catch the Man in Black. Written when King was much younger there's some lack of refinement in this story but that simply added to the rough and rugged western setting of this first book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes other King books as this is the beginning of his magnum opus.
