From New York Times best-selling author Michael Connelly, a new thriller introducing a driven young detective trying to prove herself in the LAPD. Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn. Against orders and her own partner's wishes, she works both cases by day while maintaining her shift by night. As the cases entwine, they pull her closer to her own demons and the reason she won't give up her job, no matter what the department throws at her.
A Thrilling Ride From Start to Finish!
Another Great story by the wonderful Michael Connelly! It was a great RIDE from start to finish and only made better by having Kate Moennig reading it. I love her as an actor and never knew that her voice would carry over so well for an audiobook. I loved it. I will definitely search out more audiobooks that she narrates. She totally made this great book even better. All told…. I will be telling all my friends about The Late Show for a Great summer read/listen. Hooked yet Again, Deanne Harwell
Long time fan of Michael Connelly. This book as always was well written. Detective Ballard's skills are still developing, so it didn't lead down a path like Conely's series on Bosch. Boom evidence showed up at then end, book over. Also the narrator of this audiobook was not smooth, did not enjoy her performance.
Not up to par
I was excited about a Connelly book with a female lead character, but this one fell flat for me. Not "thrilling" at all. Very boring, but I wonder if the one toned and inflection narrater had anything to do with it? One of the worst readers ever. I am sorry to be so blunt, but she stank. I don't think I will be continuing with the series, if it is a series. Also the reference to the "Bosch" amazon show was too precious.
