An unspeakable crime. A confounding investigation. At a time when the King brand has never been stronger, he has delivered one of his most unsettling and compulsively listenable stories. An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad. As the investigation expands and horrifying answers begin to emerge, King's propulsive story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.
What the heck
This has nothing to do with the book purchased it for 23.00 and it says it’s not available in the US ? Please refund my money or let me know of a fix!
I can’t believe how many bad reviews this book has had. I LOVE Stephen King, and I thought this book was pretty great.
4 stars because I thought the ending could have been better, a little more intense. No spoilers, but it was kind of lame. But the suspension throughout the book was intense, and more than once had me pretty spooked and at the edge of my seat.
In case you’re trying to compare my review with what you have liked and haven’t liked:
My Favorites by King:
The Dark Tower Series (mostly)
Insomnia (although a lot of people hate it??)
The Stand (mostly)
My LEAST Favorites:
Pet Cemetery (I hate when little kids and animals die...so even if it’s the best book in the world I could never like it. Sorry.
Under the Dome
From a Buick 8
That’s only to name a few, I really like his work, although I hate how liberal he can get at times. Like, shoved down your throat...but hey, that’s his prerogative!
Anyway, sometimes I read reviews and compare myself to the reviewer, because if I ONLY went off of negative reviews, I wouldn’t have read this awesome book. I like detective stories, murder, suspense....so this was right up my ally. Would I consider it a horror novel?? Eh....probably not. But it does get you thinking. Hope you enjoy. If not, please don’t hold it against me! 😉
