A Beautiful Conversations about the Essence of Mankind's Conscious Source
This series of conversations with history/religion/philosophy/subconscious psychology guru Joseph Campbell include mind-expanding discussions on recurring themes in myths/legends from all of human history and how that reflects back on our deep primal subconscious selves. More philosophy/historical based reflection than pure Jungian discourse, but nonetheless, Jung would probably love to participate in these conversations. For example, he talks about the development of early civilization and how those cultures that developed along rivers (Tigris/Euphrates: Mesopotamia/ Nile: Egypt/ Indus: India) identified with the Goddess worldview, owing to their experience of their river-based environment with its cyclical flooding producing fertile agricultural land, like a womb giving life. This is in contrast to mountainous cultures (Greece, Israel) were shepherding and nomadism prevailed, leading to less sedentary lives and more warlike cultures. Hence, these cultures worshiped Male Warlike Gods like Zues and the Jewish God who would strike down armies with the Ark. (Obviously these are generalizations, and paraphrased from memory at that). These early experiences in mankind's development shape who we are and how we think today. This series is a journey into ourselves and our primal fascinations.
Great series of interviews, unfortunately this one downloads as 3 files (instead of 6 since there are 6 episodes) with the episodes completely out of order. I am going to return it.
