The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s, magnum opus, tells the story of Hester Prynne, who gives birth two years after separation from her husband and is condemned to wear the scarlet letter A on her breast as punishment for her adultery. She resists all attempts of the 17th century Boston clergy to make her reveal the name of her child’s father while she struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity.
The Best Choice!
Whatever your purpose for an audio book this is easily the best choice. I have not notice any skips or abridgment and it is read almost in "character" which adds a fun dynamic aspect to the audio book and is something I have actually never seen before. This is much better than the other monotone readers that I heard from shopping around through the previews. I hope this helps someone!
The performer is quite restricted in vocal flow. It's like he can't give the words any life. They're just mundane words coming off his lips, when really, the story is more interesting that he reads it.
I hate to sound so damning, but he is the worst performer I've heard so far in all my audiobook adventures, and I've "read" over 20 audiobooks thus far.
Of course, the book itself is a classic. But you have to really want to listen to the old english verbage. It's like listening to a King James.
