A long time ago...
I was young and naive. I thought I could save the world. I thought that protecting those around me from hurt and pain was what I was born to do. She made me feel that way. Ava Links, the little girl who was too f*****g stubborn for her own good. The little girl who absorbed the hurt and pain of everyone around her and tried to bring sunshine to them all. The little girl who didn’t give a damn if people picked on her about wearing a crown and tutu every day. A little girl who somehow looked at me, expecting—no, damn near demanding—I protect her.
I saw the pain she hid, and as I grew older, I understood that pain. The pain of being so much to so many that there is really never a “you”.
I took control of my life...
I had to get away from everyone who pulled at me in order to claim myself. When I became the man I was destined to be, I began to live. Then, one drunken night, Ava Links, no longer a little girl, said the right damn thing to me, and everything changed. After seven years of f*****g her while home on leave with no expectations, now my life is out of control…
One bad dream, one I love you, one night of pushing her the hell out of my life, one drummer stealing her heart, and one explosion took everything away.
Lies are told.
Lies are unraveling.
Lies are going to destroy.
These are my truths
Amazing love Luke and Ava
Everyone deserves a second chance. Luke gets his second chance. He doesn't stop until he shows everyone what he needs them to see. Ava thinks everyone will think less of her because of the secret she has kept from them. Pipe helps Ava with her stories. Luke is sure there are reasons for everything. Luke is one hot determined male. Ava is one complicated female. Will they be able to make everything right. I love this couple. Did not like Luke much in the other story. Love Luke
Oh Luke Luke Luke!
I'll be honest...after reading 27 Truths, I despised Luke. Absolutely. Despised. Him. He was a selfish caveman who just used Ava's body whenever he was home on leave from the military. Yes, it was obvious that he had some serious PTSD issues, and maybe he was incapable of feeling anything remotely resembling love due to what he had experienced while deployed. With that said, as someone who has intimately experienced a life with someone who has PTSD, I knew that deep down that really wasn't who he was. But I still despised him regardless.
27 Lies is Luke's story, told mostly in his POV. Luke's father Tommy died in a car accident before Luke was born. Luke has felt as if his entire life was spent living in his father's shadow (thanks to his paternal grandparents), and that no one in his circle had loved him as Luke, only as Tommy's son and he had also been made to feel as if he should live his life exactly as his father would have. He joined the military to discover who he was. He loves his country and for 7 years, the USA was his only love...or so he thought.
For those of you who read 27 Truths, you know that Ava is raw right now. She's heartbroken, depressed, and solely focusing on her new responsibilities to try and avoid feeling any pain. Luke, who has known Ava all her life, recognizes that she needs help. Ava of course, being as stubborn as she is, rejects anyone and everyone who tries to help her. She wants nothing more than to keep her angels close to her at all times - shielding them from everything, from germs to social media. The story that unfolds from there is heart-wrenching, beautiful, and amazing. As far as Luke goes for me, well, I'm keeping my final opinion to myself for now. Incredible job once again MJ! <3
Review: The Truth About Love 2: 27 Lies
27 Lies: Luke's story by M.J. Fields is the second book in her Truth About Love duology. This is Luke's version, his take on how things went down with Ava and a fulfilling completion to the story of Ava and Luke. This book will help heal the pain caused by book one, 27 Truths: Ava's Story, and will bring light back into Ava's life.
The emotions this duology managed to evoke is the best measure of just how great these books were. Well-written, gritty, angst ridden, heartbreaking, and yet healing too. Luke wasn't a flawless character and M.J. Fields managed to showcase his flaws in a way that made us love to hate him, initially, and later to root for him as the hero. Ava was confused, pulled in two directions and was NOT your typical heroine. She made the tough choice and went with the better option. The emotionally stable man that would love her unconditionally instead of the damaged man that needs the healing. We all like to love the damaged ones but the truly good guy gets to have his day once in awhile too and T was that guy. Enjoy!
