孩子們的學習像海綿;他們隨時浸透在新奇的興奮中,並渴望吸收資訊。在這個年齡階段的幼童已經準備好要學習,也極欲渴望取悅父母。正常兒童的成長發育不僅僅表現在身量上,心智成熟的領悟力也是令人嘆為觀止。
 
 
很難想像極需父母幫助追趕成長里程碑的自閉兒,卻被放任在美其名的遊戲教學中瘋玩,單單地尋找魂和感官的滿足。
 
根據皮亞傑理論,幼兒園的學齡前兒童在生活經歷中,逐漸培養出心智的表徵能力(mental representation capacities)、  推理和問題解決的技能、注意力的延長、 記憶力的整合、 語言能力的細密、更進一步追求在數學和閱讀上的理解技能。
 
所謂心理表徵,是指個體在原有的認知結構基礎上,將外界輸入的資訊以自己獨特的方式或形式組織起來,並建構出一定的結構和意義。
 
心理表徵是個體認知發展的重要內容,心理表徵的發展尤其影響自閉症孩子的認知成熟度繼續發展;如果他是在有系統的教學中强化自身的視覺學習優勢。
 
我將從「空間」、「數量」、「運算」和「問題」的四個認知,評述有關幼兒心理表徵能力發展的研究,以幫助父母和自閉症專業瞭解這一階段『量身定作』DTT教育設計的目標大綱。心理認知牽涉深入的細節性量身定作,我會提供一教材示範藉以撥開 DTT教學的一角。
