A temporary engagement, a lifetime in the making . . .

After years of fending for herself, Kate Taylor found friendship and acceptance in Spindle Cove—but she never stopped yearning for love. The very last place she'd look for it is in the arms of Corporal Thorne. The militia commander is as stone cold as he is brutally handsome. But when mysterious strangers come searching for Kate, Thorne steps forward as her fiancé. He claims to have only Kate's safety in mind. So why is there smoldering passion in his kiss?

Long ago, Samuel Thorne devoted his life to guarding Kate's happiness. He wants what's best for her, and he knows it's not marriage to a man like him. To outlast their temporary engagement, he must keep his hands off her tempting body and lock her warm smiles out of his withered heart. It's the toughest battle of this hardened warrior's life . . . and the first he seems destined to lose.

Publishers Weekly Review

Feb 04, 2013 – Dare's third Spindle Cove romance proves that sequels can equal, and even better, their predecessors (A Week to Be Wicked). In the early 19th century English coastal community of Spindle Cove, orphaned piano teacher Kate Taylor is desperate to find the truth about her parentage. After a discouraging visit to her former schoolmistress, who refuses to tell Kate anything, she finds herself relying on fellow Spindle Cove resident Corporal Thorne's kindness to return safely home. Though the meek Kate initially feels intimidated by her roguish escort, a mutual attraction sparks between the two during their journey. Upon arriving back at the Queen's Ruby inn, Kate is surprised to find a bevy of aristocrats in her room claiming to be her lost family. Thorne, suspicious of their motives, proposes to Kate that they become affianced, allowing him to stay at her side and protect her. But their fake engagement brings out genuine feelings even as answers to Kate's questions begin to emerge. Dare's captivating plotline is enlivened by multi-dimensional characters, while the love story is enhanced by the mysteries of its heroine's past.

Loved it!!

Tessa Dare has done it again, wonderful story. The spindle cove series continues to shine.

I loved this book. Tessa Dare is a very very clever writer, managing to deftly infuse her regency romance with witty repartee, sophisticated (hot) passion, and a dash of intrigue. The story line had its requisite twists and turns and was not predictable from the outset like so many others of this genre. I particularly enjoyed the fullness, depth and believability of her characters. And the dry humor really made me smile. Well done Ms. Dare!

This is the best 99 cents I have ever spent.

I would have enjoyed the book for a normal price, but the fact it was 99 cents was amazing. The romance was so well written and the characters make you truly care for them.
