Description

A deeply enthralling, richly romantic novel of passion and adventure by a stunning new voice in historical romance. . .

At sixteen, Lady Solange had pledged her love to Damon Wolf, had dreamed they would be together forever. But when her ruthless father threatened Damon's life unless she agreed to marry another, Solange did the only thing she could: she scorned her true love and sent him away. . . never imagining the fate that awaited her, never knowing that one day her destiny would be entwined with Damon's once more.

For nine long years, Solange has lived a nightmare, wed to a wealthy lord whose handsome face hides a soul of darkest evil. Yet now, just as she is poised to finally make good her escape, Damon suddenly appears at the castle gate. Gone is the gentle hero of her childhood, replaced by a fiercely attractive, thunderously angry knight, who makes it clear he has never forgiven her betrayal. Convincing Damon to escort her to safety will take all Solange's ingenuity--but the real challenge lies in breaching the walls that Damon has built between them, to win back his trust. . . and his hardened heart.

From Publishers Weekly

Mar 30, 1998 – Solange, daughter of the Marquess of Ironstag, grew up with and grew to love the brooding Damon Wolf, orphaned son of her father's vassal, the Marquess of Lockewood. But their plans to marry are thwarted when Solange's father marries her to the sinister Stephen, Earl of Redmond. After nine years of tortured captivity, Solange is visited by Damon, now a marquess himself, and convinces him that her husband is dead and she must escape. Abe occasionally overwrites ("I would never be so clumsy as to fall from a turret. I have had a plethora of experience in climbing them"), or scatters a late-14th-century title (marquess) through the 13th-century English countryside. But Abe avoids most pitfalls; she more often opts for winning simplicity in her dialogue ("It's like that sometimes") than for the melodrama or ye olde faux English of many medievals. And despite what she's been through, Solange isn't a hysteric but a convincing mix of tenacious cunning and slightly unstable fragility.
