Ada, or Ardor

A Family Chronicle

Vladimir Nabokov

This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

Published two weeks after his seventieth birthday, Ada, or Ardor is one of Nabokov's greatest masterpieces, the glorious culmination of his career as a novelist.  It tells a love story troubled by incest.  But more: it is also at once a fairy tale, epic, philosophical treatise on the nature of time, parody of the history of the novel, and erotic catalogue.   Ada, or Ardor is no less than the supreme work of an imagination at white heat.

This is the first American edition to include the extensive and ingeniously  sardonic appendix by the author, written under the anagrammatic pseudonym Vivian Darkbloom.

From the Trade Paperback edition.

A masterpiece

This book - his writing, his art - makes you want to create. No other book does this, regardless of a subject matter.

Ada

Genuinely the best book I have ever read, baroque, rich, playful, and yet deeply touching. A masterpiece and Nabokovs best, better than Lolita.

The best Nabokov's book if you get passed first 50 pages :)

I'm a big Nabokov's fan, and this book to my opinion is his greatest. Some will compare it with Lolita and there are similarities - it is a book about great love and in Russian it is called "Ada or Passion". But this book is so much more than Lolita and there isn't much about forbidden love there - just deep feelings, very rich and philosophical thoughts etc.
WARNING: to enjoy it you have to get through the first 30-50 pages that are a little slow but if you could you will love it!
