It's a great start
First to say, it's obvious that the first reviewer didn't read the book. It says in the introduction (and the book description in iBook store) that all exercise files and practice files can be downloaded from a specific website.
Now onto the book! Needless to say, this is a great introductory course that allows you to experience the program and get somewhat familiar. It allows the complete novice to "get their feet wet" and be able to navigate through the program with confidence.
What it lacks is more advanced techniques, but that's okay. the scope of this book isn't to get Quirk and seasoned InDesign CS4 users to migrate to the latest version of the program, but to give the first time user an actual place to start.
After this book, an individual should gain the knowledge and confidence to move onto more advanced skills, like ePUB formatting, interactive PDF authoring, and creating interactive Digital Magazines.
This is where I would start!
