Can Terra choose between her mate and her adopted daughter?
Ember is a bloodling, a werewolf born in lupine rather than in human form. The wolf pup is the perfect blend of rainbows and chaos, bound to bring a smile to everyone's face. But Terra soon begins to wonder whether it's truly in Ember's best interests to raise her adopted daughter as a wolf.
As a bloodling himself, her mate Wolfie adamantly opposes the idea of forcing a shift on their ward before her time. But when Wolfie is called away and Ember's sadistic biological father demands his daughter's return, Terra is faced with a difficult decision.
By werewolf law, a shifter has come of age and can make her own choices after her first transformation. But while forcing Ember's shift prematurely would allow Terra to keep the pup out of the hands of her biological father, the act might drive Wolfie out of both of their lives forever.
Alpha Ascendant is the engrossing finale of the Wolf Rampant trilogy that begins with Shiftless and continues with Pack Princess.
Wolf Rampant trilogy:
2. Pack Princess
3. Alpha Ascendant
Protection and love!
Terra's unlikely attachment to her little niece grabs your heart strings as she struggles to find the balance between spoiling her adopted daughter rotten and raising her to be the lovable string werewolf alpha she is naturally. All this while she tries to find a way to hold onto the pup without ruining her little alpha or her relationship with her missing mate. Once again Aimee weaves a story of love, understanding, and the precarious balance of power and pack.
Terra acts like an insecure beta. She manipulates Wolfie into giving her power and by doing that she lessens the ability of the true alpha to defend the pack. That a female writer does this and proclaims some sort of feminism grates at me. First she writes about all of her weaknesses & fears , which is frustrating, but human (?) They present in the way of a beta-then she solves it not by her own doing but taking them from a man , thereby weakening her pack from another strong alpha.
In the first 2 books, after 14 years for bloodling or human, the shift happens. In this book, dog years are conveniently converted to the 7x human years & makes all the timing off.
Tera comes off as a weakling want to be alpha in this book who gets her way by being weak and stealing powers. Boooooooo
