Book 7, Maximum Ride

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

In the seventh book in the bestselling series, evil scientists are still trying to convince Max that she needs to save the world, this time by providing the genetic link in speeding up the pace of evolution. Worse, they're trying to convince her that her perfect mate is Dylan, the newest addition to the flock. The problem is that, despite herself, Max is starting to believe it.

Fang travels the country collecting his own gang of evolved humans, but the two separate flocks must unite to defeat a frightening doomsday cult whose motto is Save the Planet: Kill the Humans. And this time, the true heroine, for once, might just be little Angel.

From Publishers Weekly

Mar 16, 2009 – The fifth entry in Patterson's all-ages Maximum Ride fantasy/thriller series finds the teenaged title character facing her greatest challenge yet. Max, leading her flock of virtually indestructible part-human/part-bird hybrids, must rescue her human mom, kidnapped by a criminal mastermind with an elaborate plan to wreak worldwide ecological catastrophe. But in order to rescue her, 14-year-old Max and the five younger members of her flock (genetically developed by an environmental group) must team up with the U.S. Navy to determine why millions of fish are dying off the coast of Hawaii. All this, and Max is falling in love, too. Patterson doesn't spend much time on character development, opting to propel his wild story with quick action scenes, plenty of dialogue and chapters seldom longer than three or four pages; unfortunately, though, life-and-death situations are often solved by implausible plot turns. Max narrates with a precocious, snarky voice, but makes it relatively easy to jump into her complicated tale midstream. Not surprisingly, the open-ended conclusion begs for a follow-up; it's also little wonder that a movie franchise is in the works.

Customer Reviews

So I got the book the day it came out & I immediately sat down & began reading. As I was reading, I would spontaneously crack up. The people around me were probably freaking out. I really enjoyed the fact that many of Max's lines are truly unforgettably hilarious. But I did find it confusing (as did many of my fellow reviewers) how, all of a sudden, Angel stopped being evil. Although I almost enjoyed her semi-disappearance at the end, I didn't really understand what really happened in the epilogue. So overall, it was a very good book, in my opinion. Also, I was also pretty happy that Max didn't end up choosing either of the boys: Fang acquired jerk-dom from leaving the flock, but Dylan only came in the previous book and I don't know him well enough to want him to be with Max (he still feels like an intruder to me). Plus, Dylan's a total jerk-face to Fang, whom I am still a little attached to, even though he doesn't deserve Max any more than Dylan does.

Whew. That was a LOT of typing. I'm so glad to get it all off my chest!

Anyway, I thought it was an awesome book. Way to go James Patterson! Now I can't wait for the next one! Great job!

Well, I'm outta here.

Seriously. I'm done.

See ya 'round,
A random guy off the street

P.S.- Auggh!!! Now who is Max gonna be with?!?!

I read all the maximum ride books and I loooooove them. But this one was confusing I was really hoping that max and fang would end up together. Sure dylan is meant for max but fang and max grew up together. Anyways it would be illegal if they do end up together because max is 15 and Dylan is like 8 months. I hope JP puts max and fang 2gether.

GO FAX!!!!!!

I used to love the series but now the books are so short. I actually sort of hate Angel. The books are just losing its touch. Not enough violence and to much romance.
P.S. I do not want to hate angel the books just make her seem terrible.
