Description

Colin Spencer is a tattoo artist with a past he’d prefer to keep a secret. Actually, he has a few secrets that he’d rather people didn’t know about, which is why Colin doesn’t do commitment. But when a shy sailor approaches him at the gym, Colin finds this guy pushing all his buttons.

Growing up in a conservative family, then escaping with the Navy, Daniel Moore is an unsure virgin who feels like he can’t share his true self with anyone. Seeing Colin—and his tattoos—at the gym are the sign Daniel needs to finally get those tattoos he’s always wanted, and maybe try his hand at flirting.

As Colin and Daniel spend more time together, their awkward hesitations turn into a deep passion neither expected. But with both men harboring secrets, will their relationship be able to survive their insecurities and become something beautiful?

Back Piece by L.A. Witt is a sexy, emotional journey of two people learning to love and finding acceptance for who they really are.

L.A. Witt also writes under the name Lauren Gallagher.

Excellent

Sizzling hot M/M romance that was tender, sweet, and definitely sexy. Daniel Moore is a sailor living out of the closet to everyone except his family. Coming from an extremely homophobic family makes it difficult to live his life any other way. He doesn't agree with their beliefs but he loves them all the same. To this point this has worked out fine for him but when he meets and quickly falls for the gorgeous tattoo artist Colin Spencer, a man who has his own issues but works hard to deal with them, he knows the time has come to live his own truth. Will he be able to do it? For Colin?

Great read and one I would definitely recommend.

Well-sculpted bare torso, adorned with a dark, indecipherable full-back tattoo. Bright, bold title color and font. Strong author font. Captivating in its simplicity. Draws and keeps the eye. The synopsis is an afterthought, but adds to the cover appeal, further provoking the reader to pick it up.

POV ~> Third person.

The hot tattoo artist (Colin) meets a shy, virginal member of the US Navy (Daniel) at the gym a few doors down from Colin's shop. Daniel wants his first tattoo done by Colin. A moderate-paced relationship develops from there. Colin is from an open, accepting, and supportive family ~ in both his sexuality and job choices. Daniel, however, was raised in a homophobic, religious family and close-minded Mormon and Baptist community. Both have their own struggles to contend with but seem to be stronger when they are together.
There were not a lot of secondary characters. The timeline tended to skip forward often, sometimes by days, other times by weeks lending a slightly disjointed feel to the plot but providing an implied longer time together than just their few encounters. The dialogue was good, although repetitive at times, by their own admission. Interaction felt natural. The plot was dynamic and flowed quite well. Predictability was relatively low. The conclusion was solid and satisfying enough with it's implied HEA, however, I would have loved to have read how Daniel and his sister's phone call went. Also, it was not really clear if his back piece had been finished or if it was still a work in progress.
Overall, I would recommend this book. The characters are damaged and flawed, they will make you emotional while reading, but they are so supportive and real. It was a great read and I am so glad to have been able to obtain a copy to read and review.

Back Piece

Witt has a smooth, superficial style that makes for a fast easy read with a lot of sexy scenes and an HEA. Perfect for a lazy weekend afternoon by the pool with a glass of chilled wine - which is exactly where & how I enjoyed it.
