Bad Blood

Book 4, A Virgil Flowers Novel

John Sandford

This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

Two bodies in two days. One is murder. The other is suicide. Virgil Flowers never imagined that discovering the connection would lead him into the perverse history of the Minnesota farm community, and almost unimaginable darkness.

Publishers Weekly Review

Aug 09, 2010 – When 19-year-old Bob Tripp hits farmer Jacob Flood in the head with a T-ball bat at the outset of Sandford's exciting fourth thriller to feature Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent Virgil Flowers (after Rough Country), Tripp's subsequent attempt to make murder look like an accident fails. The morning after Tripp's arrest, he's found hanging in his cell. Warren County sheriff Lee Coakley seeks Flowers's help to investigate what role, if any, deputy Jim Crocker, the officer on duty at the jail at the time, played in Tripp's death. A link to the earlier murder of a young woman leads Flowers and Coakley to members of a small church with strange ways. As the pair become aware of the magnitude of the unspeakable crimes (rape, child abuse, incest) behind the deaths, they search desperately for a lever to pry open what turns out to be Flowers's biggest, if perhaps most unlikely, case to date. Another Winner

While there have been other popular crime/thriller series over the past 20 years, very few if any of the authors have been able to maintain both continuity and high quality writing. John Sandford is the consistent exception. Bad Blood continues the story of Virgil Flowers (who was skillful spun off from Lucas Davenport) while maintaining the unique Minnesota setting and characters from the very first of the "prey" novels. Except for one excessively dramatic gun battle which seemed a little too unrealistic, the entire book is filled with crystal clear images that seem to be as sharp and clear as the winter air.

Highly recommend this book!

Bad blood review

Disturbing subject, but no one tells a story better than John Sandford. Virgil Flowers is one enjoyable detective. I always enjoy his relaxed attitude.

Not his best

An entertaining book and I am glad I read it but a tale without a twist or turn. Sandford has a likable hero in Virgil without all the domestic ties of Davenport and there Sandford has it right. But I want a more convoluted plot and more action. What action there is in this book is very well done, incidentally. Sandford has a good horse but needs to let him have his head and run. Sandford has done better.
