Winner of the 2017 EDGAR AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL and the 2017 INTERNATIONAL THRILLER WRITERS AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL
FROM THE AWARD-WINNING CREATOR OF FARGO COMES "ONE THE YEAR'S BEST SUSPENSE NOVELS" (NEW YORK TIMES).
On a foggy summer night, eleven people--ten privileged, one down-on-his-luck painter--depart Martha's Vineyard on a private jet headed for New York. Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: the plane plunges into the ocean. The only survivors are the painter Scott Burroughs and a four-year-old boy, who is now the last remaining member of an immensely wealthy and powerful media mogul's family.
Was it by chance that so many influential people perished? Or was something more sinister at work? A storm of media attention brings Scott fame that quickly morphs into notoriety and accusations, and he scrambles to salvage truth from the wreckage. Amid trauma and chaos, the fragile relationship between Scott and the young boy grows and glows at the heart of this stunning novel, raising questions of fate, morality, and the inextricable ties that bind us together.
Kristin Hannah raves, "Noah Hawley really knows how to keep a reader turning the pages... a complex, compulsively readable thrill ride of a novel."

Phenomenal Emotionally Charged Thriller
I would like to thank Grand Central Publishing & NetGalley for a copy of this e-ARC to review. While I received this ebook for free, that has no impact upon the honesty of my review.
Goodreads Teaser: "From the Emmy, PEN, Peabody, Critics' Choice, and Golden Globe Award-winning creator of the TV show "Fargo" comes the thriller of the year.
On a foggy summer night, eleven people-ten privileged, one down-on-his-luck painter-depart Martha's Vineyard on a private jet headed for New York. Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: the plane plunges into the ocean. The only survivors are Scott Burroughs-the painter-and a four-year-old boy, who is now the last remaining member of an immensely wealthy and powerful media mogul's family.
With chapters weaving between the aftermath of the crash and the backstories of the passengers and crew members-including a Wall Street titan and his wife, a Texan-born party boy just in from London, a young woman questioning her path in life, and a career pilot-the mystery surrounding the tragedy heightens. As the passengers' intrigues unravel, odd coincidences point to a conspiracy. Was it merely by dumb chance that so many influential people perished? Or was something far more sinister at work? Events soon threaten to spiral out of control in an escalating storm of media outrage and accusations. And while Scott struggles to cope with fame that borders on notoriety, the authorities scramble to salvage the truth from the wreckage.
Amid pulse-quickening suspense, the fragile relationship between Scott and the young boy glows at the heart of this stunning novel, raising questions of fate, human nature, and the inextricable ties that bind us together."
This is a phenomenally told story of what happens when the lives of eleven different people collide. A chilling, yet somehow heart-warming, tale of loss and survival, of reinventing oneself multiple times, all within the space of a single moment. These characters come to vivid life under the deft tutelage of Hawley's pen; their actions and choices having radically different impact than originally intended, or zero impact when most needed.
Scott, and young JJ, are the threads that bind this tale together, weaving all the other characters lives into one giant tapestry that at once explains everything and nothing. Being the adult the bulk of the story centers upon Scott, yet so many other lives intertwine with his, sharing their stories while alive and from the grave. The choices Scott makes after the impact are in many ways foreign to what is expected in a disaster such as that in this story, yet they are what define him and make him into such an exceptional lightning rod for everyone else's story. The depth of his introspection is stunning, and so undeniably appealing that it makes you want to rethink your own life.
In the past year I've read few books as gripping as this, and have no real expectations that others will surpass this book in 2016. Once you pick this book up it is next to impossible to set it down again, even upon finishing it. For while Hawley may have reached an end point, you simply know how much more is going on for Scott, Eleanor, JJ, and so many others. Lives you've connected with on a deep level, lives you want to stay current with, for they've become part of your own story in the telling of theirs. Emotionally charged, deeply moving, lyrically haunting, this story that will reaffirm your disgust in the human condition, and restore your faith in it at the same time. How many stories can you honestly say reached you so deeply that you feel it's echoes for days to come? You certainly don't want to miss out on this book. It may very well change your life in ways you've never even imagined.
