BETRAYAL

At thirty-nine, director Tallie Jones is a Hollywood legend, whose award-winning films enjoy both critical and commercial success. With no interest in the glitz of Los Angeles, Tallie centers her life on her work and her devoted inner circle: her family, her producing partner and live-in lover, and her longtime personal assistant and best friend.

As Tallie is in the midst of her most ambitious film yet, small disturbances begin to ripple through her world. An audit reveals troubling discrepancies in the records maintained by Tallie’s trusted accountant. Mysterious receipts hint at activities of which she has no knowledge. Soon it becomes clear that someone close to Tallie has been steadily funneling away enormous amounts of her money. After an escalating series of shattering revelations, Tallie must face the harsh truth behind her seemingly perfect life:  that sometimes trust can be the greatest illusion of all.

From Publishers Weekly

Apr 30, 2012 – Tallie Jones is a wildly successful Hollywood director with a loving college-aged daughter, Max, and a devoted boyfriend/producer, Hunt. Her assistant, Brigitte, also happens to be her best friend. However, in the course of a routine audit, it becomes clear that Tallie's fortune is being embezzled by someone close to her. As the FBI investigates, she learns that she's also being cheated on. In order to trap the people responsible, she must keep them closer than ever, but by then it may cost someone their life. Steele's newest (after 44 Charles Street) is as absurd as her previous novels; the glitzy world of Hollywood privilege and cardboard characters offers little in the way of suspense, surprise, or nuance. Existing fans may enjoy it but there's nothing here that would win over new readers.

Customer Reviews

Betrayal

Just an OK book, not one of her greatest. The ebook had missing pages and repeated pages not sure what was up with that.

Terrible editing!

The premise was engaging, but the repetition in the prose was so off-putting that it ruined the book for me.

Betrayal

Another great read. I read this one in one sitting.
