Birds of Peru is the most complete and authoritative field guide to this diverse, neotropical landscape. It features every one of Peru's 1,817 bird species and shows the distinct plumages of each in 307 superb, high-quality color plates. Concise descriptions and color distribution maps are located opposite the plates, making this book much easier to use in the field than standard neotropical field guides. This fully revised paperback edition includes twenty-five additional species. A comprehensive guide to all 1,817 species found in Peru--one fifth of the world's birds--with subspecies, sexes, age classes, and morphs fully illustrated Designed especially for field use, with vivid descriptive information and helpful identification tips opposite color plates Detailed species accounts, including a full-color distribution map Includes 25 additional species not covered in the first edition Features 3 entirely new plates and more than 25 additional illustrations
Birds of Peru is basically useless.
It's just medium resolution copy's of the book. But it has no linking and scrolling is painfully slow. I'm using a iPad Air 2 at the moment and it's the fastest iPad there is (March 2015). It takes a long time to load and is totally useless in the field. You cannot see the pages while you scroll so you have no idea where you are and the index isn't hyperlinked. I have it loaded on a iPhone 4 running iOS 8 and it's completely useless in the field. It's basically impossible to find or look anything up in any remotely reasonable amount of time. If you are planning to use this into field as a replacement for the book, think again.
Birds of Peru
I went to Peru for the first time in March of 2015. I had the hard cover version and I'm pretty comfortable with hard cover bird guides. However, it is fairly large and quite a weight in one's baggage. One of our guides had the ebook version and it was quite good with whole pages displayed so you can see similar species which is very handy in new areas. Because of that alone it is a good guide as others I've checked out display only one species per page which is unacceptable. The $34.95 price tag is steep but the quality is good. The more familiar you are with birds the easier this is to use. If I go back to Peru, I will have the ebook version.
