Bound, An Arelia LaRue Novel #1 YA Paranormal Romance
Book 1, An Arelia LaRue Novel - An Arelia LaRue Novel, no. 1
This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.
Sixteen year old Arelia LaRue lives in New Orleans where the music is loud, voodoo queens inhabit every street corner, and the ghosts are alive and well. Despite her surroundings, all she wants is to help her Grand-mere Bea pay the rent and save up for college.
When her best friend Sabrina convinces her to take a well-paying summer job at the infamous Darkwood plantation, owned by the wealthy LaPlante family, Arelia agrees.
However, at Darkwood strange things start to happen, and gorgeous Lucus LaPlante insists that he needs her help. Soon, the powers that Arelia has been denying all her life, come out to play and she discovers mysteries about herself that she could have never imagined.
This is a book without an ending
While the story has its merits, it's a story without an ending requiring you to read another book. A complete cliffhanger. So if your up for books without endings... This books for you.
LOVING IT SO FAR!
I really am enjoying this, and was also hooked right from the start. This could be a CW show; it's amazing! Having trouble resisting the urge to continue on, as I want to make it last. Elated to find there's a sequel and will most likely purchase it after I'm finished with this one (and I'm a quite stingy lol).
I LOVE A FREE READ! But, I didn't love this one. Writing a strong, cohesive story with compelling characters is tough. We, as readers, know that. I am very empathetic in regards to first time writers. Unfortunately, I could not find those feelings while reading Bound. This book needed one hell of a great editor to get this story to the level it needed to be.
It is very fragmented and leaves the reader with a lot of questions. Arelia is coaxed by her friend Sabrina into taking a job as hostesses/guides at the Darkwood Plantation. They show up and their training consists of reading a pamphlet. Ummm..ok. Considering this is a haunted location of historical value, a pamphlet is the best way for your new employees to learn about it. I decided to assume, maybe Arelia and Sabrina are already VERY familiar with Darkwood (since they grew up in the area) and did not need a formal training. Also, what woman wearing a period costume from the 1850s can get dressed in minutes?!?!
I had to remind myself that Arelia was still a teenager, to allow for some patience when it came to her frequent bursts of anger and immaturity.
One family staying at Darkwood was named Dumpty <insert groan here>. Guess what? They were fat and obnoxious
I had so many questions while reading this book and not enough interest in continuing this series to get my questions answered.
1. What the heck was up with Lucas? And I'm appalled that no one has ever noticed his circumstance...EVER.
2. There was no good reason for Sabrina and Arelia to have been BEST friends.
3. Arelia refuses to believe in voodoo, ghosts, etc but they had communicated with her for her entire life?
4. Can someone please explain what Ivan has to do with the story?!?!
The story ends abruptly with the note, "To be Continued No this is not a trilogy". No? Then why do I have to purchase more books to read the continuation?
I could have enjoyed Bound. The story had great potential. Sadly, Bound was unable to reach it.
