Brain Power

From Neurons to Networks

This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

While many people wonder what the pervasive use of technology is doing to our brains, Brain Power asks a bigger but more profound question: Can cutting-edge neurological research into the way a child's brain matures teach us anything about how we develop the global “brain” of the Internet? Can we share lessons betwen neurons and networks in the way we develop both? The book was created in conjunction with a 10-minute film by author Tiffany Shlain, also titled Brain Power, which uses an innovative, participatory filmmaking process that Shlain and her team pioneered call “Cloud Filmmaking.” The TED Book expands on the ideas in the film by following the lines of the script and sharing deeper research, videos, graphics, and links that explore this cutting-edge neuroscience research, propose ideas of mindful use of technology, and compare the two to help us make each stronger. This release marks the first time a film and TED Book are released together.

Customer Reviews

Fascinating Read!

We know so little about the brain and what we do know changes day by day. Tiffany Shlain has written a great treatise on the similarities between early childhood development and our own relatively nascent internet. A great metaphor for conceptualizing how our brain's operate and mature. Great food for thought!
