“Steph Nuss has really sharpened the knife on this one. But it’s so worth all the tissues.” - Adrienne Frances, author of The Mathews Family series
"Steph Nuss delivers her most heartbreaking book so far in this series. I was left emotionally satisfied with love and compassion for Paige & Drake." - Lauren, CherryRed's Reads
Paige Abram never faces a problem she can’t solve until her high school sweetheart comes back into her life, and she’s bombarded with memories of their relationship. His presence is almost suffocating, but he’s still just as beautiful as she remembers.
His heart beat differently after its first love.
The moment Drake Wilkins sees her again, the numbness he’s felt since he walked away disappears. But she’s not the same girl he fell in love with back then. She’s colder, not as easy going; she’s a complete stranger now.
Her heart nearly quit after its first loss.
When a funeral has them returning to their hometown, a secret she’s kept from him all these years is revealed. She expects him to push her away but he doesn’t; he tests her just like when they were kids.
Their hearts resuscitate, but in the city, their love will face its biggest challenge of all: survival.
A great read
This one is definitely the most emotional of the stories so far. I cried happy and sad tears and loved every minute of it.
This book is basically a tearjerker. The only reason I read the entire book is because I purchased it. Books like this should come with a warning, i.e., subject matter will depress you. Two thirds of the book is devoted to SIDS which is a terrible thing for parents to endure. This novel is about pain and suffering over an 11 year period and ends with a bogus epiphany by the heroine. Long on pain very short on romance.
I laughed and I cried happy and sad tears And I couldn't put it down! Steph Nuss tackled a tough subject in this book and she nailed it! SHE NAILED IT!! The raw emotion these characters possessed truly showed how Steph's writing keeps getting better, and that's a hard thing to imagine because her writing is real, smart, funny and emotional. Can't wait for the next one!
