Checkmate: This is Effortless (Drew & Courtney, #2)
#2, Checkmate Duet Series
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
Introducing book 2 in the new Checkmate Duet Series from a secret duo of romance authors under the USA Today bestselling pseudonym, Kennedy Fox!
This friends to lovers romance will have you swooning and laughing from the first to the last page! Are you ready to play the game?
Courtney Bishop is as sugary sweet as her famous blueberry muffins.
Southern belle at heart, Cali girl by choice.
She barged into my life and easily became my best friend.
All was great as roommates and just friends, but then I fell for the girl who could chop firewood, deliver baby calves, and bail hay without breaking a sweat.
She’s the perfect mixture of sugar and spice, and I love her.
Being more than friends and trying to build our future isn't as easy as it sounds.
Moving forward and creating memories is all I want for us, but when the past continues to come back and haunt me, I'm not so sure she’ll stay for the ride.
Loving her is easy, but losing her will break me. Burning passion combined with an undeniable chemistry constantly pushes and pulls us together. In the end, I'll prove we’re worth the fight, even when the game is far from over.
*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*
**This is book 2 in the Checkmate Duet Series--a friends to lovers romance. You must read book 1, Checkmate: This is Reckless first.
Highly recommended to read the Checkmate Duet, This is War and This is Love first, but not necessary. This can read as a standalone duet.**
Drew & Courtney are friends to lovers gold!
I could not wait to get back to Drew and Courtney after the conclusion of This is Reckless to see how their story ends. Checkmate: This is Effortless was an emotional and action filled story that picks up right where book 1 left off. It is the second book in the Checkmate duet and is not a stand alone and should be read after This is Reckless.
Oh Deputy. I didn't think it was possible to love Drew more, but I was so wonderfully wrong. We've seen the cocky alpha cop and brother, but this time around he showed a more protective, vulnerable, and sweetness that left a goofy grin on my face for most of this book. Seriously, Drew and Courtney are friends to lovers gold. He's not perfect and may not always make the right decisions, but his heart is ALWAYS in the right place. I love that when he commits, he's all in.
Courtney needs to be real. I would love a BFF like her and she's one of my most favorite heroines ever. She's smart, sassy, funny, and incredibly loyal. I love that she nurtures her relationship with Drew just as much as her friendships with Viola and Kayla. #squadgoals for sure. She has some of the best dialogue too and Kennedy Fox never disappoints with their sexy and hilarious banter! I really love her quirky and loving family too and hope that this isn't the last we hear about them, especially Jackson and Evan.
Sorry this review is purposely vague, but I really don't want to ruin some of the amazing surprises and twists that the authors have thrown into Drew and Courtney's journey. Just rest assured that you will laugh, swoon, gasp, have a panic attack or two, and then feel all warm and fuzzy. Some things were a little over the top and the story stalled a bit in the middle for me, but I did enjoy the suspense and mystery in this book. Though this is the end of Drewtney's story, I know we will continue to get updates on them and Traviola. Speaking of Travis and Viola, their appearance in this book is awesome!! Travis and his super... yeah, you'll have to read the book ;) I can't wait to for Logan and Kayla's story next!
*I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*
What a sweet, crazy, blueberry muffin-filled ride! I'm seriously, just absolutely, insanely in love with these books. These characters. These storylines. I can't. They're so good, I swear I can never let them go. That was just the perfect ending to such a beautiful journey of two best friends who've come so far. With everything they went through, they deserve this the most. And This is Effortless certainly made me fall head over heels for Drewtney all over again.
These two are indeed a match made in heaven. It might've taken Drew a longer time to see and realize this, but then fate swooped in and worked its magic. Drew and Courtney just handled what life, or dare I say Mia, threw their way with such passion and love that could fire up a lighthouse. It was real. It was unbreakable. It was beautiful and all encompassing. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, but it was theirs and still a fairytale worth telling and repeating nonetheless.
This author duo can do nothing wrong. The love I have for Kennedy Fox just keeps on growing with every single tale they share. They've proven yet again why they're climbing up the top and getting more and more well-known to the entire book community. I never wanted Drewtney's story to end, just like Traviola's. It was so very addicting. Once you enter the world of the Checkmate series, there's just no going back. These characters. These stories. These will all stick and stay with me for a long time. And now the waiting game for Logan and Kayla's story begins! Because seriously. That ending!
Team Drewtney forever!!
With the way the first book ended, there was no chance in hell I was not going to read the second book!! (Now that I’ve finished This is Effortless, I am even more obsessed with the Checkmate series!! I am so blissfully happy right now. I almost can’t handle it. This is Effortless is a great and exciting conclusion to Drew Fisher and Courtney Bishop’s swoony, sexy, love story. Filled with sweetness, steaminess, drama and a whole lot of crazy, (I mean it. We only get of glimpse of the level of crazy Mia is capable of in book 1.) I don’t think it’s possible for me to LOVE this amazing friends to lovers duet any more. Love love love!!
Drew and Courtney are too perfect. I completely fell for this couple. They’re ranked up there on my favorites list. Their chemistry, their banter, their love, it all radiated off the pages. God! I love them so much. Drew is the sweetest. The way he cares for Courtney and his urge to protect her…*swoon…it’s heart melting. He such a good man. Plus he has access to handcuffs. *wink* And then there’s Courtney. Hello girl crush. She’s awesome. She is someone I’d like to hang out with in real life. A great gal pal and she can bake, the best! I think my favorite thing about Courtney was that even though she was scared for a majority of the book (rightfully so) she was never weak. It would have been easy to crumble with the Mia drama, her family in another state, her best friend not being as available as before but she didn’t let it all destroy her. Like I said she’s awesome. These two are magic together. TEAM DREWTNEY FOREVER!!
I highly recommend this duet. I’m sure you’ll go completely gaga over them just like I did. You absolutely must read book 1, This is Reckless, before you read This is Effortless. I don’t think you need to read the first two books in the Checkmate series (Travis and Viola’s story: This is War and This is Love) but it doesn’t hurt. They’re great and you get more of the backstory.
