This novel of awesome beauty and power is a moving saga about people, relationships, and the boundaries of love. Through Jean M. Auel’s magnificent storytelling we are taken back to the dawn of modern humans, and with a girl named Ayla we are swept up in the harsh and beautiful Ice Age world they shared with the ones who called themselves The Clan of the Cave Bear.
A natural disaster leaves the young girl wandering alone in an unfamiliar and dangerous land until she is found by a woman of the Clan, people very different from her own kind. To them, blond, blue-eyed Ayla looks peculiar and ugly--she is one of the Others, those who have moved into their ancient homeland; but Iza cannot leave the girl to die and takes her with them. Iza and Creb, the old Mog-ur, grow to love her, and as Ayla learns the ways of the Clan and Iza’s way of healing, most come to accept her. But the brutal and proud youth who is destined to become their next leader sees her differences as a threat to his authority. He develops a deep and abiding hatred for the strange girl of the Others who lives in their midst, and is determined to get his revenge.
Hard to put down once you start reading!
Clan of the Cavebear
I first read this first book of the series right after it was published. I have read it, and the following books several times now. They are as wonderful re-read as they were the first time I read each of them! I do hope Jean Auel will write a follow up book to her latest addition to the series, Land of the Painted Caves, which I just finished reading. Each of her books leaves me anticipating the next! I highly encourage you to read this book, you will have to read them all once you start!
The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel
This is the 3rd time I am reading these books by Auel over the last few years. The factual history of mankind with the presumed history of man makes for a interesting and enjoyable time spent reading her books. The books not only educates you but leaves room for logical thinking how man may have progressed in the world and used their experiences to use materials and happenings around them to progress in many aspects of their living and intellectual growth throughout the years of mankind's development. even though I have read the books before I still enjoy the characters in the books and have a hard time putting a book down when î am reading it even knowing the outcomes of the characters I am rreading. I highly recommend pr reading her books!
