Compendium of Grape Diseases, Disorders, and Pests, Second Edition

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

A Vital New Compendium for One of the World’s Most Significant Crops

Grapes are the most widely planted fruit crop in the world, with 7.5 million hectares grown, and they are also one of the world’s most management-intensive crops. Thus, the demand for an updated, comprehensive diagnostic and pest management guide is very high.

Compendium of Grape Diseases, Disorders, and Pests, Second Edition, meets this demand. It provides a valuable resource for wine-, table-, and juice-grape vineyard managers, their staff and consultants, as well as the researchers, Extension agents, and diagnosticians who work with them to ensure that these delicate crops make it safely through the growing season.

This much-anticipated second edition is packed with current information to help users combat most diseases, arthropod pests, and abiotic disorders found in grape vineyards worldwide. And the information in this book is truly applicable worldwide. More than 79 authors from 12 countries and five continents helped update or prepare new sections.

Compendium of Grape Diseases, Disorders, and Pests, Second Edition, is broken into four main parts:
• Part I covers diseases caused by biotic factors—namely, commonly occurring diseases caused by fungi and oomycetes, bacteria, phytoplasmas, viruses and viruslike agents (including nematode-transmitted viruses), and nematode parasites of grapevines.
• Part II discusses mites and insects that cause diseaselike symptoms in grapes. Coverage includes leafhoppers and treehoppers, mealybugs, thrips, and much more.
• Part III discusses disorders caused by abiotic factors, with special emphases on chimeras, environmental stresses, nutritional disorders, various causes of shriveled fruit, and pesticide toxicity.
• Part IV offers two new sections that will help users minimize both costs and pesticide use. The first section, “Grapevine Fungicides,” discusses fungicides and cultural practices in the context of minimizing disease resistance. The second, “Spray Technology for Grapevines,” emphasizes cost-saving techniques and practices with the goals of helping users minimize pesticide use and ensuring that the chemical hits its target, not something else in the environment.

In addition, the “Introduction” section of Compendium of Grape Diseases, Disorders, and Pests, Second Edition, provides a helpful overview of the grape plant, along with its worldwide cultivation and varied uses, its history, rootstocks, morphology, and developmental stages.

Appendixes include an updated list of common names of grapevine diseases caused by microbes, nematodes, and viruses, as well as a guide to the many equivalent names given to grapevine diseases and disorders in the English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish languages.

An expanded glossary of more than 800 terms and a comprehensive index make this resource accessible to anyone working in the grape industry, including diagnosticians, Extension specialists, consultants, scientists, vineyard managers and staff, students and educators, and juice, fresh fruit, and raisin producers.

Quantity discounts are available for easy distribution to field representatives and other experts at your organization; VIP clients/customers in the wine-, juice-, and table-grape industries; colleagues in state and county Extension agencies; and fellow researchers and diagnosticians at your institution.
