From Publishers Weekly

Mar 28, 2011 – First published in 1999, launching the author's number one bestselling Dark series about the Carpathians, a dying race of vampires, this special hardcover edition offers over 100 pages of new material. Now the Carpathians find new hope when their leader discovers that his life mate is a telepathic American woman visiting their remote mountain region. The paranormal romance's appeal stands the test of time, with its sensual and absorbing story of an independent beauty taming a terrifying but smitten beast, while his people face annihilation from vampire hunters, hidden enemies, and their own failure to procreate. At nearly 500 pages, however, the pacing often lags, with long scenes between hero and heroine that replay the same issues in repetitive detail. Still, fans will likely enjoy seeing the love story plumbed in every nuance, and there's enough power to draw new enthusiasts. Toward the end, Feehan creates a complex and compelling future hero in a secondary vampire leader, and her climax picks up much-needed steam.

Rape culture prevails. I couldn’t get through the first chapter with out thinking about victims.

I have read quite a few books by this author and enjoyed them all... except this one. It just drug on and on and on. The characters were totally cliche and many aspects of the plot were predictable. I just could not get into it and didn’t even finish the book...which is SO rare for me.

Irritating! Waste of time!

This book could have been good if only the main character, Raven, was not the most annoying and irritating character throughout the entire book. Raven was seriously the worst. I could understand that she was hesitant and annoying about being with Mikhail in the beginning, but throughout the entire book....seriously?! Enough was enough. Why couldn't you write her to be accepting. Even at the end she was against him. She was indecisive and extremely annoying for the entire book. Raven completely ruined this book for me. I absolutely abhorred her. Do not recommend unless frustration and wasting your time is the goal.
