Book 3, McCabe and Savage Thrillers - A McCabe and Savage Thriller
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
The mutilated body of a young woman. The town doctor lying comatose in the road. A hundred and fifty tablets of Canadian OxyContin. This is the havoc that a merciless killer has wreaked on a sleepy Maine seaport.
As detectives Maggie Savage and Michael McCabe investigate, they realize the man they are after does not exist. Nobody knows his real name. Nobody has seen his face. But everybody fears his blade.
The only one who may know the murderer's true identity is an eleven-year-old girl—who has vanished into thin air.
Taut, twisting, and starring two unforgettable heroes, Darkness First will thrill fans of John Sandford and C. J. Box.
This is a terrific story, the author has a real feel for people, how the think, how the act. I'm finicky about mysteries, but this one is top drawer. I think Maggie Savage will be around for a while; I certainly hope so.
This third in James Hayman's Maine mystery series surprises in two ways: First, the Portland locale of the first two books gives way to rural, Washington County, where illegal traffic in oxycontin leads to murder. Second, Hayman has promoted Maggie Savage, protagonist Mike McCoy's partner in novels one and two, to lead character here. As before, Hayman has produced a real page turner, enhanced by his intimate knowledge of all things Maine. And with Maggie Savage, he's created a super sexy new heroine. A great read!
Good character building. Good solid story. What made the book for me was the fact that I really bought the characters and cared about how it ended. And the ending was a perfect one for me. I will look for more of this authors works.
