Book 12, Sookie Stackhouse

Description

Felipe de Castro, the vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank.

Now it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s set out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

Publishers Weekly Review

Mar 26, 2012 – The events of Dead Reckoning—particularly the death of the despicable but powerful vampire Victor—have consequences for Sookie Stackhouse and her supernatural gang in Harris’s intriguing 12th and penultimate series installment. When Sookie’s vampire husband, Eric Northman, summons her to his Shreveport home to welcome the visiting king, Felipe de Castro, and his entourage, she’s shocked to find Eric feeding on another woman while the king and his underlings ravage their own humans downstairs. The woman Eric fed from turns up dead on his front lawn and someone calls the police, putting Eric and Felipe’s entourage under suspicion. With the help of ex-boyfriend Bill Compton, Sookie grudgingly sets out to clear Eric’s name while trying to keep the local fae under control after her kin, Claude and Niall, return to the land of Faery. As loyalties realign and betrayals are unmasked, Harris ably sets the stage for the ensemble’s last hurrah.

Dead series

I loved the first nine Sookie Stackhouse books. I was a little disappointed in Book 10. I barely remember Book 11. This will be the last book in the series that I try to read. Harris replaces plot with plod and characters with cardboard. The main plot of the book is that there is a dead girl no one knows, with no friends or relatives, who apparently wanted to die, and Eric, Sookie and Pam might possibly for about five minutes be potential almost-suspects. Most of the book follows Sookie around Bon Temps interacting with boring characters most of whom are interchangeable and doing mundane things most of which are uninteresting. Remember how she used to go to the library and get shot or attacked by a werewolf? Now she just goes to the library, which is what I should have done instead of buying this book. Eric is barely in the book, and when he is around, he doesn't do anything. Remember when he regraveled her drive way because she needed it or when he bought her a cranberry coat because she got brains on her old one? Now he shows up on her birthday empty handed with nothing to say. Pam is equally gutted. Bill make a lot of page time, but doesn't do anything other than profess his undying love for Sookie. No dramatic gestures, just words. Harris clearly doesn't care about this series anymore, so, with a heavy heart, I'm following her lead and giving up on it.

Worst book inthe series.

I have read every stackhouse book and been in love with them. This one feels like an insult. Most of the book feels like random short thoughts about doing meanless things. The last 1/3 of the book is better, which is not saying much because the book is so short. Complete waste of my money, and time. Maybe the author is tired if writing this series, b/c thats what it felt like as i was reading.

If this was the first book of the series I read i would not pick up another one

Ugh!

Sorry, but this book was BAD! It does not deserve even 1 star. Still love ya Sookie!
