Dear Emily is the first book in the Forever Family series.
This book is not suitable for young readers. It is intended for mature adults only (18+). It contains strong language, adult/sexual situations, non-consensual sex, and some violence.
Not for me. Too many POV's.
The story is about Two young girls with traumatic life changing circumstances that alter the way they trust people. This story is about two separate lives that are affected by a horrific tragedy from their past that changes the outlook and outcome of their futures.
I'm struggling with the switching from Carly's POV to Tabitha's POV and then from the past to the present. It was difficult to stay connected to a character when you would get invested in one then it would switch to the other and then have to re-connect again. I felt like I was reading four separate stories. The story focused more on the past rather than the present. The story is titled Dear Emily and only a small portion of this story is about the baby.
The story touches upon the process of adoption and what both people experience along the way. You get Tabitha's perspective in how she feels about giving up her baby. Then you get Carly's perspective on being blessed with the gift of a baby. Both parties are faced with doubts and fears as they wait for the arrival of Emily. Carly fears that Tabitha will change her mind and Tabitha fears she is making a mistake giving up her only opportunity to be a mother. Then it switches to a lengthy process regarding rape.
Both these girls have the same thing in common, both are looking to heal themselves from the tragic past that keeps haunting their future.
I like this book although it is a very sad story. Two different girls dealing with different tragedy. So sad. Wonder how it turns out at the end. Can't wait to read the next books.
