Duty meets desire . . .
Mercy O’Malley hates killing people. So when she’s assigned to take out Vampire-Demon Logan Kyllwood, she lures him to a seedy bar in Scotland, then decides to kidnap him instead. How can she cold-bloodedly end all that heat, those green eyes, that ripped body?
Unfortunately for Mercy, attempted murder and kidnapping are just foreplay for the Kyllwood brothers. Logan may be the youngest of the bunch, but death and violence are already a way of life. Now he’s ready to complete a painful, terrifying ritual to become one of the Seven, dedicated to protecting this world from the most dangerous evil it’s ever known. But first he has to deal with a blackmailing Fey, a ransom demand and his own pounding need for the last female he ever should have fallen for . . .

Not what I expected
Certainly different from the original Protector series. Logan and Mercy’s story dragged on for me. I stayed with it, hoping and getting more, but not nearly enough. Really lacking in action, and story really. A lot of running, teleporting and whining. Mercy did grow on me. She was naive and childish, but I think it’s because her entire race was that way. Once accepting that, I enjoyed the story. Paxton is going to be a force. I think his instincts are spot on and he’ll protect Hope from herself.
One major complaint was that we did not get to experience the reaction from Zane and Talen, when Mercy told them the Fae were coming for Hope. A missed opportunity. Can you imagine the rage that would have rolled off Zane and Talen? What we got was Logan recalling the meeting in his mind. That said, it was an ok read. Definitely not my favorite.
Long live the Dark Protectors. Fantastic book. Absolutely love Rebecca Zanetti!
I love the fact that Rebecca Zanetti has introduced a new species in this series. All the abilities the Fae have, open so many new ideas for her writing and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Logan Kyllwood has known nothing but war and protecting the ones he love since he was a young boy. Being a hybrid demon/vampire leaves his family as outcasts even if they are demon royalty. Now destine as one of the Seven he barely has the time to look for one of the Keys and definitely not for romance.
Mercy O’Malley is one of the few Fae left, they have a breeding plan in place to grow their numbers but first they need to stop the Seven from reforming or there will be no life left to live. Her plan is to stop Logan from becoming one of the Seven and school him on what will happen if he does not. It’s is not her plan to fall for the bossy arrogant and oh so sexy hybrid.
Mercy is a very strong women and sure of her abilities and her peoples knowledge of the universe. The more time she spends with Logan the more she is torn between duty and destiny. If Logan can only get Mercy to stay where he puts her he may be able to protect her and solve the Seven’s issues.
Realization of ones worth and who to trust will solve duty versus destiny but which one will they choose?
