He’s the Duke no one expected. She’s the Lady he’s been looking for. Can their love overcome the dark storm gathering over the House of Amberley?
London, 1817. Rugged, roguish Major Connor Forbes has just received the surprise of a lifetime. After returning from the front lines of the Napoleonic Wars, the Irish-born warrior has just learned he’s the heir to an English dukedom. The only problem? The last three Dukes of Amberley all died under very mysterious circumstances, and before long, Connor is convinced that someone is trying to kill him. As he attempts to survive his new title and navigate life in the London aristocracy, he knows he needs the guidance of a high-society insider…but whom could he possibly trust?
Innocent, mild-mannered Lady Margaret Winthrop is desperate to escape her cruel sister’s household, even if it means marrying her only suitor—an arrogant boor. When the hothead challenges the new Duke of Amberley to a duel, she has no choice but to throw herself on the war-hero’s mercy to spare him. But Maggie never expected she’d have to make a scandalous pact with the dangerous outsider to keep her beau alive…
As Connor and Maggie search for clues together in the London ton, they can’t help but grow closer. To him, she embodies a battle-hardened soldier’s dream of peacetime. To her, he calls forth the adventurous streak she didn’t know she possessed. But can their fragile bond survive Connor’s cursed inheritance, or will a vengeful assassin and family secrets buried deep within the House of Amberley destroy their chance at happiness?

Great Historical Romance
've been a diehard fan of Gaelen Foley since discovering her Knight Miscellany Series ten years ago. Duke of Storm, the 3rd book in her Moonlight Square Series, is a great example of why I love her books. It had a hero and heroine that I quickly adored, some great secondary characters, plenty of action, spellbinding intrigue, and a sweet romance.
Connor Forbes, an Irishman, has barely returned from the Napoleonic Wars when he learns that he has become the Duke of Amberley. As soon as he departs the ship to take over his title and estates, he is attacked. He soon becomes convinced that someone is not only trying to kill him, but has also murdered the last three dukes, who all died within a short time period.
Connor meets Lady Margaret Winthrop when he is backed into challenging her suitor to a duel and she pleads for him to be spared. Soon Connor and Maggie are allies and she him to search for clues to who wants him dead. As their relationship deepens into something more, they must solve the mysteries of the past and make it through danger before they can have a chance at a future together.
I loved both Connor and Maggie, and thought they were great together. I really enjoyed the way Maggie wanted to help Connor and how protective he was of her. They made a great team, and I liked how they pretty easily got past the facets of one another's personalities that could have been stumbling blocks. The storyline kept me interested, and I loved the historical Regency setting. This was a great addition to the series!
I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
A Must Read!
Amazing Read! I was glued to the story from page one! A military hero and a heart warming heroine fight together against intrigue and danger to stop a loose assassin. The attraction between the main characters, their banter, and the colorful secondary characters made the storyline so rich and powerful that I did not want it to end!
This book is just okay
The description says 400- some odd pages but at a reasonable print, I had 718 pages. This book could have very easily cut at least half of it out and told the story much better!
I didn't care for the main female lead. She was spineless until she became a bossy, know-it-all within the matter of two minutes. The lead male was great until he capitulated to the female lead who didn't have a clue. I think the story line was great but the characters could have been written much better. Especially some of the secondary characters.
