I have three major loves in my life: my family, my best friend Becky, and ballet. Elijah Turner is quickly becoming the fourth.
He's been around as long as I can remember. But now he's much more than just the annoying guy at school.
My life was working out perfectly...until it got turned upside down.

One of my favorites!
I can usually sit down and write a review in just a few minutes but I can't with this one. I am literally in awe. It's hard to put into words how much I loved this novel. I have written hundreds of reviews and this is definitely one of the hardest for me. I am at a loss for words and if you follow my reviews then you know that means something. This isn't my first Margaret book so I should have seen it coming but no, it was more than I expected. Thank God, I joined her support group. Ok...going to try this.
Alice lives for ballet. She loves her family. She has found her soulmate in the form of her best friend Becky. She is like a sister to her. And recently, she has let the boy that has teased her since grade school into her life. Elijah doesn't just want her. He feels in his heart that she is everything. That she could be the love of his life. He just needs her to believe too. At sixteen, your emotions, thoughts, dreams, passions are all over the place but these three knew exactly what they wanted. To dance. To play guitar. To be more than expected. At sixteen they didn't see what was coming...
I know that was vague but I will talk more about the characters. I have felt connected to fictional characters, many, many times but I have never felt this connected. Ever. I felt like I was right there with them. Laughing at Becky's ridiculousness, watching Alice dance, and driving with Elijah to one of his amazing surprises. And it wasn't just them either, Alice's parents play a major role in all of their lives. They are such a loving and beautiful couple. They make up a extraordinary family. The relationship between Becky and Alice is powerful. The one between Elijah and Alice is breathtaking. I will never forget these characters. They are special and I will keep them in my heart.
Now...feelings. I have never been so physically and emotionally drained from reading a book. My blog partner is in another state and she was worried about me. Now, I do cry while reading. Not always but if I do, it's usually at one specific moment. In this book...I was crying for pages! When I thought I was done, it would happen again. I am going to give you two warnings. One: Have tissues. Two: Prepare for a book hangover. It's rare when I can't just pick up another book after writing my review and moving on. This is one of those times.
Overall...it's one of the most beautifully written novels I have ever read. Even if you don't read YA but you love the emotional ride of a story...read this book!! I don't read many YA books but I love Margaret's writing so it was a must. Thank you, Margaret for the ugly cry. Xoxo
🔹I guess the words came but it took 2 hours instead my usual 20 minutes!
P.S I'm hungry...read the book and you will understand.
