Edgar Allan Poe: Tales of Horror and Mystery Audio Edition is an anthology of over 15 classic Edgar Allan Poe short stories. All selections within this anthology are accompanied by their audio book counterpart, so you can listen and read along.
Edgar Allan Poe is often cited as birthing the modern day detective story, as well as the Gothic horror genre. This selection includes: The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Mystery of Marie Roget, The Purloined Letter, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Tell-Tale Heart, Bernice, The Masque of Red Death, Silence, Eleonora, The Black Cat, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Oblong Box, The Premature Burial, Hog Frog, The Cask of Amontillado, The Facts in the case of M. Valdemar, The Imp of the Perverse, and the Oval Portrait.
Cannot read along with audio
While the concept (and price) is compelling, one has to look to the Table of Contents to find Audio Files, select and then play the narration. It took a bit of hunting to figure that out but that's fine. What I had hoped for, and what had been stated above, was the ability to read along. I wanted my kid, who is studying Poe, to do this in the car on a trip. But we'll enjoy the audio-only for now.
Free is free, so a big thanks to C&C Web Press for that.
Love the read along
The narrator sounds like she recorded this in her basement. There's sort of an echo-ey static, and her accent makes it slightly difficult to tell what she's saying.
