Encinitas Union School District Digital Learning Program

This book provides a brief overview of the Apple Distinguished Education Program at the Encinitas Union School District in California.


Through a large one-to-one iPad initiative, the K-12 Encinitas Union School District has developed an exemplary learning program with shared visionary leadership, committed teachers, and a supportive community. Every student in the district receives an iPad at the beginning of the school year. Every staff member has an iPad and a Mac laptop. Students create screencasts, songs, animations and videos. To support instruction using technology, the school has implemented a wireless workflow. All curriculum is driven through iPad, supported by the use of a Common Core aligned digital curriculum suite. The district has used iTunes U and iBooks Author for staff professional development (PD).  As a result of the initiative, the district has seen significant increases in many categories of student achievement as measured by California Standards Test and the Academic Performance Index.
