Esperanza thought she'd always live with her family on their ranch in Mexico--she'd always have fancy dresses, a beautiful home, and servants. But a sudden tragedy forces Esperanza and Mama to flee to California during the Great Depression, and to settle in a camp for Mexican farm workers. Esperanza isn't ready for the hard labor, financial struggles, or lack of acceptance she now faces. When their new life is threatened, Esperanza must find a way to rise above her difficult circumstances--Mama's life, and her own, depend on it.

Sad but good
This book was amazing... But it got said and I fell for her and what's going on in her life
I read this book when I was in 2nd grade, at the time I enjoyed it though I did not really understand it.
This book is very beautiful, it focus on Esperanza and the struggles she faces. Looking back on it I realize how amazing this book is. I love it because of the strength that Esperanza shows. It's a great read, and very easy! But it does have some sadness.
A sad but great book!!! Must read!!!
