Why had God placed this life in front of me? To start with, the Lord never gives you more than you can handle.
I would be born to parents Joyce and Denny Grant, married at ages seventeen and twenty-three. It was a match made by way of Denny’s maternal aunt, Kitty. In 1956 she was my mother’s roommate in Camarillo, a California insane asylum. This marriage was a slice of hell, giving birth to three children. Joyce would kill her second born, Jimmy, followed by her hanging me as a two-year-old, three years later.
Where does one’s life go from there? What were the reasons for these events—or those that followed, many of which my mind blacked out? What was God’s plan? What would I learn? When would I begin to remember . . .
About the Author
Deborah Rose is author of the book Family of Distorted Minds, an open account of her life, shattered both physically and emotionally by her family. She invites you to examine the life God placed in front of her, in which “my dysfunctional family taught me what not to be!” She proceeds with the daily, lifelong lesson to be a part of the solution, versus the problem, allowing the healing assets of Empathy and Forgiveness to develop within. By sharing her story, Deborah’s greatest hope is that her fellow humankind walk away realizing, be they old or young, it is never too late to right a wrong and be part of the solution, not the problem, thus enabling the power of atonement.
Deborah now resides peacefully in Las Vegas, Nevada, enjoying her new life with kind-minded companions who know “Anger begets more anger, and forgiveness and love lead to more forgiveness and love.” (Mahavira)
