#2, On The Ropes
This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
I come from a family of fighters. I always thought I’d follow in their shadows, becoming unstoppable in the ring. That changed the day I saved the life of a woman I loved, but could never have.
My brother hailed me as a hero, and my reward was a wheelchair.
Paralyzed, my life became an inescapable nightmare.
Until I met her.
Ash Mabie had a heart-stopping smile and a laugh that numbed the rage and resentment brewing inside of me. She showed me that even the darkest night still had stars, and it didn’t matter one bit that you had to lie in the weeds to see them.
I was a jaded a*****e who fell for a girl with a knack for running away. I couldn’t even walk but I would have spent a lifetime chasing her.
Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting the shadows of our past.
Fighting to reclaim my future.
Fighting for her.
Flint battles back!
I can't tell you how long the wait has been or how excited I've been for this book! I fell in love with the Page boys in Fighting Silence. That book gutted me. Fighting Shadows was like a balm that soothed the pain of the wound. I both loved and hated Flint in this book. I'll explain shortly.
I will admit to feeling like the level of angst wasn't very high and I was expecting it to be a lot more. That's not to say this book was light or fluffy, but it didn't hit me as hard emotionally as I was expecting it to. That's hard to say considering what I know of Flint's life and Ash's as well. Easy is not a word in their dictionary or something they have any experience with.
Flint and Ash had a lot in common. It drew them together, but also created problems for them as well. Both of them had horrible parents. Their upbringings weren't typical for their peers. Trust was a very big issue for them. My heart broke for them. I loved seeing them together and the connection they had with one another. I did not like the way Flint hurt her though.
I also didn't like the way he treated his family. When I mentioned hating Flint, this was the reason. I understood his need for independence, and to make changes in his life, but I didn't understand the way he went about it. I loved seeing Till and Eliza again. I loved seeing Quarry too. My heart broke for him as well in this book, but since he's getting his own story, I hope he'll heal. I loved Flint for his steadfast pursuit of Ash, his determination to stay grounded and handle things to best of his capabilities. Boy was Flint capable!
There were a lot of serious moments in this book with some light and sweet ones too. And some really hot ones that would be a crime to forget about. I enjoyed them all. I was seriously hooked to the story. I might have wanted more details about certain people, events, or more emotional angst, but I couldn't put it down. I finished it quickly too, something that only happens when I'm really enjoying a story. I'm hoping the wait between now and Quarry's book won't be so long. I'm very curious to find out the details of his life journey. Aly Martinez has once again done a fantastic job at bringing her characters to life.
Another great addition to this series. Loved it.
