Book 4, King & Maxwell

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Following the instant #1 New York Times bestsellers Split Second, Hour Game, and Simple Genius, Sean King and Michelle Maxwell return in David Baldacci's most heart-pounding thriller to date . . .

A daring kidnapping turns a children's birthday party at Camp David, the presidential retreat, into a national security nightmare.
Former Secret Service agents turned private investigators, Sean King and Michelle Maxwell don't want to get involved. But years ago Sean King saved the First Lady's husband, then a senator, from political disaster. Now the president's wife presses Sean and Michelle into a desperate search to rescue a kidnapped child. With Michelle still battling her own demons, the two are pushed to the limit, with forces aligned on all sides against them--and the line between friend and foe impossible to define . . . or defend.

From Publishers Weekly

Mar 30, 2009 – Plenty of intense action drives bestseller Baldacci's stellar fourth novel to feature former Secret Service agents Michelle Maxwell and Sean King (after Simple Genius). Maxwell and King, D.C. PIs, step on the toes of everyone, including the FBI and the Secret Service. They even manage to bruise the ego of First Lady Jane Cox, who hires them after her 12-year-old niece is kidnapped following a birthday party at Camp David. Baldacci excels at making the improbable believable as one obsessed man, 62-year-old Sam Quarry, takes on the best security the U.S. can muster from his Alabama redoubt. Even more impressive than Quarry's determined campaign is the ingeniousness with which Baldacci manages to disguise both Quarry's precise motivation and aims. Meanwhile, Maxwell has to deal with her mother's death and a host of other personal issues. Baldacci's careful plotting and confidant depictions of national security procedures make this a thinking man's thriller.

Reasonable Baldacci

I have always liked the Baldacci books... This one, however, seemed to miss the mark. While it is an interesting story line, you can figure out large parts of the plot within the first 50-100 pages.

Definitely a winner. A can't put down book. Keeps you wondering the next move. Dave Baldacci is terrific and I am looking forward to reading his next book and seeing if this was fluke or he is a great writer. I will probably go with "A Great Writer"

I think this is one of your better books, mainly because the Florida Primary has been going on while I was reading it. It is really scary to me to think about Romney buying his nomination and maybe presidency. I am mighty uncomfortable even looking at his smugness after the ordeal he has put us all through. Your book is so mesmerizing, and fantastic. I am recommending to my reader friends. I have a stack of your books awaiting me. I have enjoyed all I have read and can hardly wait to open "The Whole Truth".
God bless and thank you.
