The instant New York Times bestseller!

"Utterly unique and absolutely riveting—I couldn't put it down! What a marvelously cool world."—New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas

From the author of the New York Times bestselling White Rabbit Chronicles series comes book 1 of a brand new series in which life as we know it is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

Tenley "Ten" Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she'll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she's drawn to isn't where the boy she's falling for lives? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

From Publishers Weekly

Feb 08, 2016 – Showalter (the White Rabbit Chronicles) addresses religious extremism, conformity, and war in this first book in her dystopian Everlife series. Seventeen-year-old Ten, short for Tenley, lives in a world where two Everlife (afterlife) realms, Troika and Myriad, fight to win over souls, using torture and bombs to force citizens' conversion. Ten has been locked in an asylum for refusing to choose sides. She is a particularly special soul, and both Troika and Myriad send their best and most attractive young men to persuade her that conversion to their realm is paramount, often using romance as a seduction tool. Troikan parallels to Christianity are apparent through the use of numerical symbolism, a divine trinity, and an emphasis on one's Everlife over one's Firstlife. Showalter's rapid plot shifts and action sequences can be disorienting, and Ten's struggle to protect her future and her individuality within the grip of an oppressive society fall in line with genre conventions. Yet the story's use of religion as a framework is fresh and layered, giving the novel an epic sweep. Ages 12 up.

I was truly lost to this new world!

I was given an ARC of this book from Jan's Paperbacks bookstore for review for their newsletter. I have never highlighted a book as much as I did this one! I loved this new world so much! I loved the characters and everything about this story!

Firstlife is the first book in a new series by Gena Showalter, the Everlife Series. It starts off in a unique way with a series of emails that drop you right into the story.

Once I was introduced to the main character Tenley “Ten” Lockwood I felt instantly connected to her. She is a strong minded and strong willed teen that is being forced to make a decision that she is not ready to make. Ten has learned that it is not an easy choice. It is not black or white. It is not good versus evil. Both sides are pushing her to decide. Like all teens, pushing her to decide is only pushing her further away. Her journey is fast passed and an epic adventure unfolds taking the reader through many obstacles.

Gen Showalter has created an extraordinary new world where it has been revealed that life on earth is not what we thought. Our life on earth is just the beginning and is only where we have our Firstlife. After we die on earth we go on to Everlife. In order to experience Everlife you must decide on a side; where you will spend your Everlife. The only acceptable choices are Troika or Myriad. If you die without choosing a side you end up in trapped Many Ends, which is worse than forever death.

I was truly lost to this new world and Ten’s adventures. I mourned the end of the book and absolutely cannot wait until the next installment.

Fell in love with this book😍

This book is an amazing story about a teenage girl stuck between two sides of a war. She's locked away in a improvement for troubled teens by her parents because she wouldn't pick the side they want her to pick Ten is a strong willed character who will not be bullied into action.

As for the other characters killian is a devastatingly handsome boy who falls for ten. He's your typical "bad boy" and doesn't follow the rules. He will do anything to get ten sign with myriad. Until he starts falling for ten and her witty sense of humor?

Archer is a good hearted boy with pure intentions. He becomes one of tens best and only friends.

This book is one of a kind and I highly suggest you read it if you like hex hall, the mortal instruments, the grisha trilogy by Leigh bardugo and the throne of glass series.

I couldn't stop turning the pages, reading whenever I possibly could... I wish Killian was real.... He sounds really HOTTT. He would be a perfect man for me..😂 Loved the book and all the characters! I definitely recommend this book to anyone willing to read and enjoy it.☺️
