Absolutely loved this!
A women has an affair with her gardener and gets pregnant but her lover was a dark Greek and her husband blue eyes and light. She has the baby when he husband is out of town 2 weeks early. After she gives birth she knows her husband will leave her when he sees her child. A fire starts in the hospital and the choices and the aftermath that Sylvie, the new mother has to choose between saving her marriage but she will pay in spades for the pain her choices cause her and ultimately those around her. In the end, everything has come full circle and i was so impressed by the way the author interwove the characters lives and their 6 degrees of separation while leaving the reader guessing what was to unfurl and when it would instead of being upset the plot was easy to figure out you were thrilled it was working out so well. Elegant prose and meticulously crafted characters and their surroundings and more importantly their emotions. Beautiful writing! Lovely
Captivating Strong but Vulnerable Characters
In order to benefit from reading Thorns of Truth it is essential that you read Garden of Lies first. One can’t resist becoming addicted to the incredible female characters Rachel and Rose who are switched at birth. Author Eileen Goudge brilliantly develops multidimensional characters who show brilliance, compassion, strength and vulnerability. The male characters Max, Nikola,Eric will also captivate you as their strengths and weaknesses evolve. You will wait hungrily to find out if the women ever discover their true identities . Controversial subjects are approached from religious fanaticism and subsequent intolerance, abortion, domestic abuse, infidelity, and military service in Vietnam. This book is similar to Woman in Black. All have several features in common. Women who evolve into independent women and fear of dependency upon men who might interfere with their growth are themes in all. My only slight complaint is that all 3 books have a dramatic fire which tests the character’s strengths, values, and motivations. All that said I do not hesitate to recommend this stimulating emotional rollercoaster which will leave you satisfied but hungry for more.
Not a good read
I almost did not finish this book 2 or 3 times out of boredom. The book appeared to have a decent plot at the beginning. The story dragged on and the writing was not good. If you like romance novels, it might be ok.
