They’re big. They’re hot. And they play hard.
In the kickoff to Serena Bell’s sexy new football romance series, the heat between a female coach and a cocky linebacker turns the Seattle Grizzlies locker room upside down.
Iona: There’s nothing like the rush of going head-to-head with the boys. Football is my life, and I got my new job with the Seattle Grizzlies because I know how to play rough. But as a woman in a man’s game, I can’t afford any distractions—like panty-melting tabloid darling Ty Williams, my star linebacker. I’ve stared down plenty of good-looking players without losing my cool . . . and yet something about Ty’s intense gaze burns straight to my core.
Ty: Despite what they say in the press, I save my best moves for game day. The Grizzlies aren’t just my teammates, they’re my brothers—no way am I going to let some new coach shake up our defense. But Iona Thomas isn’t just some coach. It’s so tough to keep my head in the game when I’d rather be in bed with her. She may take charge at practice, but if I had her in my arms, I’d be choosing the plays. I just need to figure out what makes her tick—and what makes her want to break the rules.

I'm not a sports fan but I liked this book a lot!
This story proved to me that you don’t have to be a sports fan to enjoy a sports related romance. While there was quite a bit of football jargon that I didn’t totally understand, the important thing was the story about Iona and Ty and you don’t have to understand all of the jargon to get emotional about their relationship or dilemma.
Iona has worked hard to get where she is in the world of professional football. Working for the Seattle Grizzlies is the break she’s been waiting for and she won’t let anything stand in her way.
Ty has faced a lot of loss in his life; as a result, he has kept himself pretty much emotionally unavailable but there’s something about Iona he can’t seem to resist even though he knows he should.
This story grabbed me nearly from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down once I started reading it. It’s a lot more complicated than just the relationship between Iona and Ty. They both have things from their past that are still affecting their feelings and actions.
Ms. Bell’s writing just seemed to flow and even though first person stories aren’t my favorite this one worked for me. I liked that the chapters alternated between Ty and Iona telling the story. Not only did this book tug on all of my emotions it was also HOT! It wasn’t just in the bedroom scenes either. The sparks were flying on and off the field and “hearing” their internal dialogue about those encounters was fun.
Getting Inside is a great start to a new series. There is a rich cast of secondary characters and a good setup for additional books. I look forward to reading more about the Grizzlies.
A review copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion of the book or my review.
I really wanted to love this one but it turned out to only be an ok read for me. The storyline is intriguing but alas, also a bit cliche - first female pro football coach Iona Thomas who, although she knows everyone in the sports world is watching her, gives in to the strong attraction between herself and star linebacker Ty Williams. The writing is good and the characters enjoyable however the story is very predictable.
